Field measure

Measure the house with a laser. Price it before you reach the truck.

A phone or iPad, a Bluetooth laser if you have one, and no signal required. The measure syncs to the office and becomes a takeoff — nobody types the house in twice.

The laser sends the number, you don't retype it

Pair a Bluetooth laser once and a reading lands in the field you are standing in. No keypad, no transposed digits, no reading a display at arm's length in a dark basement. There is a typed fallback on every field, because a laser goes flat and a tape never does.

It does not need signal

Everything is written to the device as you type it — every keystroke, not every room. Basements, new builds and dead spots are the normal case in this trade, so the app is built for them rather than apologising for them afterwards.

A measure is never lost to a crash

Tapping Add Room saves it before you type anything, so there is no unsaved room to lose. Close the app mid-number and reopening puts you back on the exact screen and field you were in, with no prompt and nothing to recover.

Then it is the office's problem, not yours

The measure syncs to the estimate. Rooms, sections, stairs, landings, voids and obstructions arrive as a takeoff you can price — cartons for the hard surface, a cut plan for the carpet — without anyone typing the house in twice.

What comes back off the site

A measure sheet in software, not a notes app with boxes on it. Each of these means something different to the quantity engine waiting for it at the office.

Rooms
Length x width, or a direct area for a shape you worked out on site
Sections
L-shapes, bays, closets and hallways as their own rectangles in one room
Voids
A framed bathroom or a stair opening — floor that does not exist. Subtracted
Obstructions
An island, a hearth, a column. Recorded by name and NOT subtracted
Stairs
Counted per step, with winders counted separately. Never given an area
Landings
Their own card — a space measured like a room. The riser belongs to the steps
Photos
Attached to the job and held until there is signal to send them
The customer
Name and address, filled from where you are standing if you want it

The difference between a void and an obstruction is the one nobody else asks you for, and it is worth real money in opposite directions. Why an island is not a hole.

Which lasers work

Straight answers, including the two that are never going to work and why. The app carries this same list and tells you where your model sits before you spend an afternoon scanning for it.

  • Leica DISTO X3 / X4 / D2

    Best supported

The models the published protocol work was done against — the best chance of working first time.

  • Leica DISTO D1 / D110

    Confirmed in the field

Paired to an iPad and used on a real sales call to measure a room and a flight of stairs. Check the first reading against a tape anyway — that is good practice with any laser.

  • Bosch GLM 50-27 C / 120 C / 165-27 C / 400 CL

    Should work

Bluetooth Low Energy, and the app knows the shape of Bosch's measurement frame — but it has never been tested against one. Check the first measurement against a tape.

  • Bosch GLM 50 C / 100 C

    Cannot connect

Bluetooth Classic (SPP), which iOS does not expose to third-party apps at all. Nothing we can build changes that.

  • Bosch BLAZE GLM 165-22

    No Bluetooth

Bosch's own data table lists this model as Connected: No. It cannot send a measurement to any phone, with any app. Measure with it and type the number.

A laser not on this list still connects — nothing here blocks a scan or refuses a device. The app falls back to reading any measurement it recognises, tells you what it saw, and you can always type the number. If your model works, tell us and it goes on the list; if it does not, the diagnostics screen will say what it received.

Two things worth knowing before you rely on it

  • The device is the only copy of a measure's structure. Rooms sync up to the office, but a measure does not come back down onto a replacement phone. Sync before you hand the old one in.
  • No LiDAR, no scanning, no plan reading. A laser sends a distance and the app records it against the wall you are pointing at. Nothing builds a model of the room.

Put it on your phone and measure one room.

Free plan, no credit card. The app is the same on the free plan as on any other.
